Using swapandmove

In this section we have tried to answer your general questions around how to use the swapandmove website

Joining and your account

How do I sign up to swapandmove?
Click on the ‘Register’ link in the top right hand corner or click here. We just need some simple details about you, your home and where you want to move to. If your landlord has subscribed to swapandmove then the service is free for you to use. Even if your landlord has not subscribed to swapandmove you can use the service free for at least 3 months. After your free trial comes to an end you can choose to continue using swapandmove for a further 3 months for a total of £5.99.
How do I update my account details?

Once you have registered with swapandmove you can easily update your details by signing in to the site and clicking on the ‘Your account’ link in the top right hand corner. Then just click on the details you want to update; ‘About you’, ‘Your household’, ‘Your current home’, ‘The home you want’, ‘Where you want to live’ and ‘Contact preferences’.

I have forgotten my password. What do I do?
Go to our forgotten password page. You will need to enter your email address, and then we will send you an email to help you sign back in again.
How do I add photographs of my home?

Your home will be much more attractive to possible swappers if you upload good quality photographs.

If you are not signed in, click on the ‘Sign in’ link in the top right corner. If you are already signed in, click on the ‘Your account’ link. On the ‘Your account’ page, click on the 'Upload a photo’ button. You can add your photographs from here.

Please note that all photographs will be checked by a member of staff before they are displayed. Any inappropriate images will be deleted. Photographs should not include any people and should only be of the interior or exterior of your home.

I am still waiting for my landlord to approve my membership.
If your landlord subscribes to swapandmove they may insist on approving any swapandmove registrations by their tenants. If your registration is awaiting approval this will be highlighted on the ‘Your account’ page. Until you get this approval you will not be able to use all of the features of swapandmove. It is the landlord’s responsibility to provide this approval. Most landlords provide approval with 3 to 5 working days.
How do I close my account?
If you are not signed in, click on the ‘Sign in’ link in the top right corner. If you are already signed in, click on the ‘Your account’ link. On the ‘Your account’ page, click on the ‘Close your account’ link. You will then be asked why you are leaving the service before you close your account.

Finding swaps

How do I find people to swap homes with?
swapandmove automatically matches you to other tenants who you may be able to swap with. Once you have signed in just click on the ‘Your matches’ link or click the ‘Matches’ tile on the ‘Your account’ page. The matches you see are based on the information you have saved in your account. If you change this information you will see different matches.
What if someone wants to swap with me?
If someone sees your property on swapandmove and wants to swap with you they will send you a message. You can see any messages that have been sent to you by clicking the ‘Messages’ link on ‘Your account’, or by clicking the message icon in the top right hand corner. You can reply to their message or contact them directly if they have provided their contact details.
What is a match?
When we talk about ‘a match’ we just mean another person who you may be able to swap with. They want the kind of home you have, and you want the kind of home they have. Matches are based on property location, number of bedrooms and type of property (house, flat etc). The matches you see are based on the information you have saved in your account. If you change this information you will see different matches.
I don’t have any matches. What should I do?
If, when you click on ‘Your matches’, you don’t see any properties then check if any of the filters are ticked. Filters appear on the right hand side of the screen under ‘Refine results’. If you still don’t see any results when you clear the filters, then you may need to be more relaxed about the type of properties you are interested in. To broaden your search click on ‘Your account’ then change the details in ‘The home you want’ and ‘Where you want to live’.
I can’t see my own home in the search results
That right. Your own home never shows up in your searches, but other people can see your home when they search. If you want to see what the advert for your home will look like just click on the ‘Preview your advert’ link on the ‘Your account’ page.
